CUBA TO GUINEA

Saturday, Oct 14
One day only at Dance Mission Theater!

Join us for a day of workshops, performance excerpts, work-in-progress showings, film screening, and panel discussion exploring the the vibrant, layered, and largely unknown social-political relationship between Cuba and Guinea, West Africa forged by the transatlantic slave trade as well as the post-colonial dance/culture exchange that began in the 60s.

Artistic directors Susana Arenas Pedroso (Arenas Dance Company) and Bongo Sidibe (Duniya Dance Company) have joined forces with Dance Mission Theater’s Liberation Academy to go on a multi-year journey illuminating the vibrant, complex political/cultural story between Cuba and Guinea, West Africa, shining a light upon how cultural art forms and solidarity across communities are weapons to fight today’s colonial battles.
